Blog Competition




Participation:  UT Quantitative Economics students
Topics: any sub-field of economics (such as macroeconomics, microeconomics, monetary policy, finance, theoretical economics, econometrics etc.) not necessarily related to Estonia.
Number of authors of the blog: it is possible to have more than one author
Language: English
Deadline for submission: last day of each month
Criteria of the blog post: Length of the blog should be up to 1000 words, but no less than 700 words. It should include some empirical part (not necessarily econometrics models but some descriptive statistics, such as: histograms, distribution, scatter plots). It should contain references (eg. Masso and Vahter (2008), Masso et al. (2004) ). If you want to add annexes you can use this website http://www.pdf.investintech.com/ and then put the link into blog post. This is a simple way to shorten your blog post.
Graphs and charts in the blog post: You can use any software (Matlab, R, excel etc.). Excel is preferable because it is much more user-friendly in terms of font choices and size. Graphs should be saved as .png or .jpg format. Size of the images should have a dimension of 650x420. The font on the graph is recommended to be Times New Roman (font size 12 and color RGB 80x130x190). Graph should have its own source, like Source: worldbank.org and title.

Blog post should be full of:
  • Originality;
  • Substance;
  • Analytical nature;
  • Clarity of writing.

Prize: The best blog author will be awarded 100 Euro. At the end of each year 12 “blog of the month” will be printed and published as a small journal.

Selection the best publication: The jury will evaluate all blog posts during the month. In the jury there will be Jaan Masso (program manager), One of alumni student (Irakli Barbakadze, Ketevani Kapanadze, Nino Kokashvili), Mattias Jõesaar (UT marketing department). Number of comments and likes and page views will be taken into account but the novelty and originality of the post is the number one criteria.
